Hep B Toolkit

This campaign was created in collaboration with the Kansas Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics and the Kansas Hospital Association to emphasize the importance of the HepB birth dose. When babies receive the HepB vaccine at birth, they are protected during their most vulnerable time because many people, including caregivers and family members, may not know they have hepatitis B.

Designed to share with parents and caregivers, the campaign includes our HepB birth dose social media toolkit in English and Spanish and print handouts. Viewers will also find the recording and slide deck from KAAP's webinar “Strengthening Confidence in the Hepatitis B Birth Dose,” which features free CME.

Caption: The hepatitis B vaccine is recommended at birth because babies are at the highest risk of developing chronic hepatitis B if exposed.

Hepatitis B can spread through:

👩‍🍼An infected parent during birth
🏠A caregiver or household contact
🏥Unexpected exposures

Many people with hepatitis B don’t know they have it. The birth dose provides early protection, even before your baby leaves the hospital. 🛡️

If exposed at birth, up to 90% of infants develop chronic hepatitis B. Early vaccination within 24 hours gives them the protection they need from the very beginning.

You’re not just checking a box. You’re giving your baby protection that supports a healthy future of learning, playing, and growing. 📚🤸‍♂️🌟

Caption: Many soon-to-be moms wonder if the HepB birth dose is needed if they’ve tested negative.❔

✅The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends it for all newborns, regardless of mom’s status, to help protect against unexpected exposure. Many people don’t know they have hepatitis B and may not look or feel sick.

The birth dose acts as a safety net, helping protect babies during a vulnerable time.👣

✅The American Academy of Pediatrics has safely recommended the HepB birth dose since 1991. Since then, hepatitis B infections in children have dropped by 99%. 📊

A safe, early step to help protect your baby from the very beginning.👣

The hepatitis B birth dose helps protect your baby from possible exposure, especially since many people don’t know they have hepatitis B.

With that protection, your baby can stay healthy, be safely around others, attend child care, and grow, play, and thrive. 🌈🤸‍♂️🌟

Featured Webinar Recording by Kansas Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (KAAP)

Strengthening Confidence in the Hepatitis B Birth Dose Free CME available

Ensuring every infant receives timely, evidence‑based protection against hepatitis B begins at birth. This webinar, led by pediatrician Gretchen Homan, MD, and pediatric resident Anthony Saad, MD, provided an up‑to‑date review of the AAP’s recommendations for the hepatitis B vaccine birth dose, including the history and evidence that shaped current guidance.

Designed for healthcare professionals who care for newborns in hospital and outpatient settings, the session clarifies the clinical rationale for the timing of the birth dose—and why it is far more than an “extra” dose.
